Had for several weeks, though it tends to get very hot in the back fan, also the speakers sound scratchy when turned up too high. We experimented and it seems the speakers are sort of loose. When we push down on them they stop any sort of problems. Concerning the overheating, it simply gets very hot all around and although that isn't a problem, it tends to turn off and go into a hibernate sort of state. It gets quite hot when it has a lot of things running or playing games. The odd thing is that it's ONLY the right fan that gets noticeably hot. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Though this has been happening it still shows to be absolutely smexy to anyone that is interested. It runs beautifully these are it's only flaws.

Have you taken the case apart. Alienware makes nice computers but they are notorious for just slapping together machines sometimes.
You might need to take it apart and make sure all the heat sinks and all are properly screwed in. Also take a can of air and blow out the dust and what not in the machine It will help alittle.
Also the 15x is a horrible horrible machine for heat. Its powerful, but they put a GTX in the machine and that is a VERY hot card. A 17in laptop can usually only run them when it has an upgraded cooling system and i dont think alienware did that with this series. It will run fine but your friend is going to have to take some precautions to keep it from slagging itself due to overheating.
Undervolt the CPU - this will save him between 5 and 20 degrees (and no before you ask it doesn not decrease the CPU's preformance)
Make sure its always on a hard flat surface.
Make sure that hes using good drivers. The 8800m series stock drivers are VERY inefficent and need to be updated
