What happens if i use the wrong power supply?
My Current power adapter's cord is getting pulled out, so I went to the store and bought a new one. I went on the website of the new product to check compatibility, and it wasn't listed. The current power supply is:
AC
Input: 100-240V ~ 50-60Hz 2.0A
Output: 19V 6.3A
My Laptop is an Alienware M15x
The new power supply is (iGO):
Input: 100-240V ~ 1.5A 50-60Hz
Output: 19.5V =/ 90W Max
Are these compatible. I don't want to try it out, in case it messes up my PC. I don't want to buy Alienware's (it's $120)

Hi there,
Your old power supply was approx. 120 watts....19 X 6.3 =119.7 watts.
The new power supply is 90 watts.......90/19.5= 4.6 amps (vs. 6.3 amps for the original).
Since the new power supply has the correct voltage (and if the connector polarity is the same) it may work to charge up your battery. It may not have enough output to run your computer and charge the battery while running any programs.
You can try it and it might work.
Personally I would spend the money for the recommended part from Alienware because your computer is worth a lot more than the $120- for the correct supply.
