can i melt games workshop plastic sprues and use it to cast molds?

I am planning on making some duplicate bits for my Warhammer 40k Dark Eldar raider. I was wondering, instead of spending money on buying plastic resin online, if it would be possible to melt down the extra plastic from the sprues that the models come on. If not, where can i find cheap resin that would be nice and sturdy for Warhammer 40k models?

The problem with heating the plastic is that it can cause fumes that can be dangerous, through breathing, or a fire hazard. Most sytrene plastics will generate fumes before they melt.
Resin is the best commercially available stuff. You can try hobby shops - model trains especially use it for molding parts for that hobby. Another way is to go to a workshop supply for plumbers or widow installers. It will be cheaper to buy in bulk form these sources that the hobby shops. You are best to start fresh with new stuff.
Unless you are going to carve the sprues - throw them out.
