Anyone got expierence with warhammer 40k or Warhammer Lotr?
Hi, so basicly i've been meaning to get into warhammer 40000 or warhammer lotr, and i have no knowledge of these at all, is there anywhere that i can read the full rules of how to play before that i start buying units and other things. Somewhere that i could find out how big an army is meant to be how to play things like that? And if anyone has an opinion of whats better- LOTR or 40k please dont hesitate to mention.

If you've got no knowledge at all, then you need to acquire some before you commit to what it potentially a very expensive hobby.
What your best source of knowledge will be depends very much upon where you live. If you're in the UK, then there's a good chance that there's a Games Workshop hobby centre not far from you. The staff there would be only too pleased to take you through a demo game and explain the basic rules for either WH40k or LotR (or the new pitched battles version, War of the Ring).
If you're not in the UK, then you might be lucky enough to live near a GW anyway (they can be found all over the world and a full list is available on the GW website (link 1). Even if there isn't one nearby, there may be a registered independent retailer, a list of which can also be found on their website. That said, not all independent retailers are inclined to have demo tables or take time teaching people the rules. What you're looking for is a Friendly Local Gaming Store (FLGS), most commonly found in the US, but also located in Australia and continental Europe. Your local yellow pages may assist.
Failing that, your next source of information can be a local wargaming club. The Gaming Clubs Network (GCN) (link 2) is another great UK resource that's just beginning to spread its wings internationally, too. A network of reputable clubs of all sizes, its members are sure to be able to show you the basics of the game and you'll also get a good look at a range of armies and models to choose from.
As far as reading the full rules goes: no. There are occasionally torrents available of the rulebooks and codexes, but these are illegal, pirate copies and neither Y!A or Games Workshop approve of the distribution of download of these documents, so don't look for guidance here. Moreover, these torrents are usually only up for a limited amount of time, as GW's legal team tends to track and remove them pretty quickly. But you'll be able to get an idea of the rules with a demo game and you're sure to be able to browse the books at a gaming store or club.
I can, however, tell you that your armies don't have to be any particular size to play at all. Although games in clubs tend to be on the 1000-2000 points (somewhere between 20 and 50 models each, roughly) my club also plays games of less than 200 points that can be only one model and is rarely more than ten.
LotR and WH40k are very different games. Strictly speaking, LotR is the better game in terms of design and gameplay. 40k is lumbered with a lot of legacy issues from early editions that mean that the designers have to be careful not to completely nerf players' armies when they release a new edition. LotR, on the other hand, was designed from scratch by experienced professionals and it shows.
That said, a lot of people - myself included - still prefer 40k. The background is very rich and exciting and the miniatures are lovely. LotR miniatures are also very nice, but are rather hard to paint. Moreover, it's much easier to find an opponent to play 40k.
